I am a true blue Nokia Communicator fanatic. Eversince Nokia launched this kind of phone, I have never looked back to any other PDA-style cellphone. I currently have an ailing Nokia 9500 which has served me very well. Battle-worn and stripped down to to its most basic plastic casing (I have already scratched off all the faux metal finish), this 9500 has been my trusty aid -just as its predecessor, a 9210i, has done.
Last Thursday, I thought I saw the end of my 9500. It was dropped for the nth time. This time it slid off a table during a meeting as I was trying to pull another object. I checked the phone and and saw that the interior LCD was not working anymore. I tried the various tricks such as gently tapping it against my palm. I even tried knocking on it and got no answer in return. I said to myself, "This is it". My greatest dilemna at that point in time was how to transfer all the vital data in it.
Despondent because I thought I would have to get a new one (the latest Communicator is at PhP 40k) , I walked back to the parking lot from the meeting. Deep inside, I was just hoping...actually praying that some miracle would take place to revive this Communicator. My walk back to the parking lot involved a cut through Greenbelt's fountain area where at 4:30 p.m. was already bustling with people. One guy who was in such a hurry and walking on the oncoming direction suddenly sideswiped me causing my 9500 in hand to fall on the pavement. The battery cover flew off as did the battery. Even the memory card was about to dislodge itself out of the slot thereby indicating the intensity of the impact.
The guy just walked away without any apologies and I,....well I was left to just pick up the pieces. Reassembling the phone in that short walk to Greenbelt 2, I found out that the shock it had just received brought it back to perfect working condition.
Resurrected!
Conclusion : If your phone conks out, drop it on the pavement. It will go back its perfect working order.

hey! that was funny. i had my communicator's c,d and other panels replaced 3x already due to damage hinges and major scratches since i got it in 2004. i never had any problems with the LCDs but now that i found the effective solution you just did, i guess it wouldn't be too much of a fear breaking it up now.
ReplyDeletecheers!
thanks for stopping by. amo gid na. just like in everyday life, dyutay lang nga lampus ang kinanglan. UUK (Ilonggo Version of LOL)
ReplyDeleteglad your communicator is alive! :P i had one before but my husband teased me that its like a piano. i love it though for its super huge memory that i can store endless photos and data.
ReplyDeletesuch an entertaining twist of events! seems to be a tried and tested way of the world - if a gadget malfunctions and ceases to work, hit it! and if that doesn't work - drop it (thereby hittng it harder). haha!
ReplyDeletetilawan ko beh...teh kung indi na siya amg-andar liwat, mangayo lang ko sa imo bag-o ng phone! hehehe

ReplyDeletepare! so which is better? P990 or the communicator. lately the 990 hangs on me =(
ReplyDeletei would like to try out a P990i but just as you have confirmed, the P990i hangs. sabi daw, the latest stocks of P990i have more stable systems with Sony Ericsson having rectified the problem. i guess i'll stick with the communicator. especially since they have a new release. kaso lang di ko pa yata kayang bilhin. :-(
ReplyDeletenaku im sure carl will defend his P990!
