Yesterday, I watched the documentary on the French Revolution. I already had some thoughts on that a month ago when Bastille Day was celebrated. I was just too busy to blog on the week of July 14.
If you thought my earlier post was cause to laugh about, here's more. If one were to scan the pages of the weekend broadsheets of July 18 and 19 (the weekend after Bastille Day celebration) as well as this month's society glossy mags, one would find all these pics of our usual Philippine socialites pompously celebrating Bastille Day with champagne and hors d'œuvres. I find the pics really hilarious because in my mind, what is it for the socialites to celebrate about? After all, Bastille Day commemorates the day when the proles kicked out the bourgeoisie. ;-)
I think that in order to make next year's celebration more authentic, the French Embassy ought to invite the farmers pushing for the implementation of land reform and the contingent of Bayan Muna. Now that would really be a celebration in the spirit of "liberté, égalité, fraternité".

^^ That's the irony of Holidays and Celebrations. Sometimes we celebrate for wrong reasons. :D
