Here are the excerpts from a post I made in Pinoygolfer.com, a forum for golfers. The thread title was "How did you get your start in golf? Tell us your story."
Here's how I got my start. I have always hated golf not finding sense in the fact that one has to hit the ball a few hundred yards only to run after it and hit it again further...and so on for six kilometers. My friends could attest to how much I hated golf.
In 2005, after feeling the toll on my health as a result of a hectic and stressful career in advertising, I decided to quit the job and give priority to shaping up. I was only looking for a gym and not a new sport to take up. The best gym deal I found was at Makati Golf Club wherein the monthly dues came along with free time on the driving range which was non-convertible into other forms of usage. With no choice but to use up that time on the range, I began learning to swing that club.
The rest is history. I am addicted to the game. My son and daughter are my golfmates which makes time on the course the best of our bonding moments.
I still hate golf though. I hate it for different reasons now.
I hate golf because it is so addicting.
I hate golf because 2 years is not enough to get everything right.

lloyd! can i join you for a round of golf one of these days? i first held a club like 5years ago. it took 10 swings before i hit my first ball. it was frustrating but when i did finally hit the ball - thanks to intense visualization practices on the spot! - it felt exhilirating! it is truly a mind game. anyway, my arms and legs were sore the next day but i remember heading to another driving range. my friends unfortunately did not want to pursue it so i fell out of it. now, i think i want to pick up where i left off. that is the driving range. let me know if ok =)
ReplyDeleteback to the driving range is the best place to start. and, best to have a paid pro teach you the first couple of times :)
