All of a sudden, people are interested in Junior Golf. Unfortunately, it had to happen the way it did last December 26 at Valley Golf when junior golfers Bambee and Bino de la Paz, along with their dad, figured in a melee with politician golfers.
Bino de la Paz was a team-mate of Joaquin in last year's 41-strong Philippine delegation to the 2008 Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego. I will not delve into who's right and who's wrong. All I can say is that the incident has surely escalated into a highly controversial issue as proven by the fact that while I'm writing this post, the de la Paz golfers are being interviewed by Korina Sanchez on ANC and accompanied by their lawyer Raymond Fortun. Just try Googling "Bino de la Paz" and you'll be surprised at all the search results.
I can only thank God that when Joaquin and I played golf on Christmas Day, we had none of those types at Marapara.
Now, given the media attention, I think it will be a lot easier to find a soft spot among politicians to support the jungolfers in this year's quest for junior golf awards in the US. :)

i wouldnt be surprised if, one day, there will be a golf course with an express lane for those 'golfers' who think everyone ought to know who they are and should be treated above royalty.
ReplyDeleteThis is another example of the abuses of people in power in the Philippines.
