In my meeting yesterday at Starbucks with my mentor on Digital Marketing, I offered to get her something to drink. "What will you have?" I asked.
"I'll have a tall hazelnut latte, non-fat", was the answer. I went to the till to ask for 2 tall hazelnut lattes, non-fat. She was surprised I had ordered the same.
After a few seconds, barista says, "Sir, we're sorry but we ran out of hazelnut syrup, you can choose from Caramel or Vanilla". I turn to the mentor and relayed the minor setback. She opted for vanilla. So I went back to request for two tall vanilla lattes, non-fat.
It was easy to spot my mentor's surprise that I was merely "copying" her order. However, I consciously do that these days in cafes because it saves me from the hassle of having to make minor decisions which will not spell a big difference for me.
Less decisions to make provides me with more serenity.
While every one pushes forward for more control in this modern world (even on simple items as their coffee given the myriad combination of brews) , I pull away and leave the non-essentials in the hands of others.
I may have less control...but it also means less stress :)
another approach when visiting the same store is to possibly take the same thing you had during the last visit.. :P if you remember.. or say barista's choice.. parang barber's cut..
